Arrival - 30 Minutes BEFORE Lesson Starts:
Arrive and check-in | Change into your wetsuits | Meet your instructor and discuss the lesson | Head to the beach.
The Beach - First 30 Minutes:
Beach-based safety briefing | Assess the conditions and set goals | Exercise science based warm-up | Surfing techniques based on your level of experience.
The Ocean - Final 90 Minutes:

We recommend booking with as much notice as possible for a couple of reasons:
- We have limited availability - especially for our Family/Private Surf Lessons. Once a time slot is full, there's no wiggle room.
- It helps us to book in our best instructors ahead of time
- In the case of bad weather or poor surfing conditions, we can work with you to move your lesson to a more suitable day with plenty of notice

Absolutely.
Watergate Bay is located just 10 minutes from Newquay, so it is close by but without the massive crowds town can experience.
It has some of the most consistent waves in Cornwall, soft white sand, can be surfed at all tides, and is strikingly beautiful!
Family friendly AND dog friendly - what's not to love?
Our Family Surf Lessons are more flexible than our group lessons, where our normal minimum age is 8y/o.
On a Family Surf Lessons one child as young as 5-7 years old can join.
Just remember that due to their age/size there is a high chance the instructor will need to spend the vast majority of their hands-on time with them for safety reasons.
If an additional child between 5-7 years old wishes to join the class then they'll need to have a non-surfing adult in the water for support.
For your Family Surf Lesson at Watergate Bay, make sure you arrive wearing a swimsuit, sun cream and slip-on shoes.
Bring a towel and a change of clothes, and £1 for the public showers.
As a smaller surf school with limited space, please try to limit the belongings you plan to leave with us.
We'll provide everything else you need on the day like wetsuits and surfboards!
Blue Surf School runs the smallest surf lessons groups in Cornwall at 6 student to an instructor.
That's 25% LESS than your typical group lesson of 8 students to an instructor at most other surf schools.
If you'd like to book more than 6 people please contact us directly so we can help finalise that for you!
A surf lesson is 2-hours long, not including the half an hour needed to get ready before hand.
If it is looking like weather or surf conditions might not be safe on the day of your lesson we'll make sure to keep you informed in the days leading up to it.
Due to weather patterns changing quickly here on the atlantic coast we may not make a decision until the night before or even day of your lesson.
Should we deem it unsafe we’ll look to reschedule for another day. Failing that we'll offer you a voucher for the full value of your lesson or issue a refund.
We're one of the more cautious surf school in Cornwall. Our priority is ensuring that your surf lesson at Watergate Bay is enjoyable and safe!
