"From the moment we arrived at Blue Surf School, I knew I had made the right choice.

We've met plenty of companies that offer activities, but very few that
make you feel like part of the family - they've built something really special. The passion they have for surfing, the ocean, their customers, and their team shines through in absolutely everything they do.

Thank you such an unforgettable experience"

The best activity to do in Newquay

You'll Learn to Surf, Share the Stoke, and Find Your Surfing Home!

Surfing (and collectively struggling to put on your wetsuits) has a way of bringing people together that few other activities can match.

If you've tried surfing before you may have noticed that's pretty hard to do when there's 30 other people all checking-in and getting ready at the same time.

Everything can feel rushed and the experience feel's more like a box-ticking exercise.

In Blue Surf School’s Beginner Surf Lessons, our small groups and staggered timetable makes connecting with those around you easy, allowing you to create new memories together you won't soon forget.

All while being given more 1-on-1 time with your instructor to improve at a faster rate than a regular group lesson.

You could learn to surf anywhere…

So Why Come for a Surf With Blue?

Hi! It’s Adam here, one of the owners of Blue, and I have a confession to make… Gem and I aren't originally from Cornwall and we weren't born by the ocean (shhhh - don't tell anyone).

In fact, I didn't start surfing until I was in my 20s, and I still remember that unbeatable feeling of riding my first waves on a wet and windy day in Cornwall. I’ve loved it ever since.

When I met Gem she made it VERY clear that she wanted to live in Cornwall, fuelled by years spent visiting her favourite beach in the world - Watergate Bay. It only took a global pandemic to help me take the leap to quit my job and become a surf bum!

Here we are, five years later, owners of our very own slice of surf and yoga heaven in Newquay, Cornwall.

Our surf experiences are a lot like us: easy-going, feel-good, personal.

So If, like us, you weren’t born by the ocean, but are looking for somewhere to call your surfing home, then look no further - you’ve found it in Blue!

Frequently Heard Worries

You may have some worries - that's understandable, we’ve heard our fair share

here are some of the most common worries we hear from guests before they go on to book with us

(and their reaction after)

Of course you aren’t - in fact we’ve welcomed people at Blue well into the 70s for their first surf experience!

The one thing we tell everyone when they come to Blue is that surfing is hard - no matter how old you are. The only way to find out is by doing, the only way to get better is by practicing, and there’s definitely no better time to start than now.

~

“Fabulous experience. This was a first for me and I thought I’d left it a little late in life at 59 but I had a great time. Turns out you’re never too old for fun and I’ll definitely be back to catch waves again”

Brian, 59 years young having fun trying surfing for the first time ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We won’t lie to you and tell you surfing is easy, because it isn’t!

We can however promise you that with the right instructor, equipment, and environment It can feel a lot more enjoyable and easier than you might have experienced before.

Expect small groups, well-maintained equipment, and Blue’s signature easy-going, feel-good, personal style to look after you.

~

“Best surf lesson I’ve ever had actually, very personalised and flexible with intelligent instructors who retrained me on my pop up and reading the waves. Plus, I genuinely had a good old laugh while doing it!”

Elinor, first time at Blue after trying surf lessons elsewhere ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you’re worried about trusting someone with your child’s first surf experience, fear not, it’s completely normal and you’re not alone!

We never lose sight of the fact that everyone is different and that includes having different worries, needs, and types of support they respond to.

By working with local SEN schools and the Wave Project charity, we’ve delivered surf lessons to a huge range of neuro-diverse children with complex needs. We’re always happy to talk about your child beforehand if you need more reassurance too.

~

“My eldest is autistic and they were so accommodating, flexible and had her on her feet in no time. She was thrilled and so excited. They could seem to sense my badly disguised stress levels and their easy-going approach took the pressure off so I actually got to enjoy myself too!”

Rose, a relieved mum seeing her daughter thrive on a surf lesson ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Do you remember how many things you were good at the first time of asking? Yep… not many!

Some surf schools will “promise” you on their website that you’ll stand up on your first lesson, but we don’t do that here. That’s because there are soooo many reasons why you might not, such as poor surf conditions or you having a general off-day.

We can promise you that our small groups and personal coaching style will give you the best possible start to surfing, leaving you to confidently keep practicing and improving long after you’ve left Blue.

~

“I can’t lie, I’m probably never going to be Cameron Diaz but to my surprise I actually managed to stand on my board by the end, and that was completely down to the support on our lesson.”

Miya, pleasantly surprised that she managed to stand on her first lesson ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

There’s a lot to think about when it comes to the ocean - tides, waves, wind, weather… being a little bit wary is smart!

Remember, when you first learn to surf you never need to go any deeper than you feel comfortable with, and should always be able to have your feet on the ground and head above water.

If it’s getting a bit much for you, then just make sure you position yourself close to your instructor (they’re qualified lifeguards after all), or take a few minutes to catch your breath on the beach before rejoining the lesson.

Our small surf groups means the instructor has less people to keep an eye on too, just for that extra layer of safety while you’re on a lesson with Blue.

~

“I was pretty anxious about surfing… It was very cold and I'm not particularly fond of water, but it was honestly fantastic! Erin and Adam were so friendly and laid back and we all had a whale of a time! We can't wait to do it again when we're back in August”

Wendy, from anxious to returning guest in just one surf lesson ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We love Cornwall… but we don’t think we’ll ever love how unpredictable the weather is down here (while we run a surf school anyway)!

Surfing in the Atlantic ocean comes with challenges but we’re on hand to track any tricky weather/waves that might negatively impact your surf or safety. We keep you informed of things we’re wary of, and do our best to create back-up plans that won’t disrupt your other plans while you’re here.

If all else fails, and we need to cancel your lesson completely due to bad weather, then we’ll either release your booking to be rescheduled within a year or offer a full refund.

~

“Love Blue Surf School! This week we had to reschedule our session twice due to weather and Adam and his team could not have been more accommodating! The follow-up keeping us updated with weather notifications was great and so customer focused. It’s one of the many reasons we are returning customers.”

Jools, a returning customer, even after the weather wasn’t playing ball ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A Feeling That Stays With Your Long After Your Lesson

"You know when you have those rare occasions when everything was just so easy and memorable that your whole group says "yup that was something special" - well our time with Blue Surf was that.

Every little thing was so much.... fun! Even the admin and getting ready was a laugh for the family.

I never leave reviews but I cannot recommend Blue Surf, Adam, Sam and the whole team enough.

6 out of 5 stars!"
